Our approach

The mountain is the test. Everything else should be effortless.

Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain on earth and one of the most accessible high-altitude trekking experiences in the world. But the success of your climb is decided long before summit night, in the route you choose, the pace your guide sets, and the team behind the scenes carrying the camp.

We have summited Kilimanjaro hundreds of times since 2012. Our briefing, gear, food, acclimatisation profile and rescue protocol are built around one quiet conviction, you should arrive at Kibo Hut still feeling strong, with energy in reserve for the long climb to Stella Point.

From the plains to the summit

Kilimanjaro is more than a climb. It is a horizon, a backdrop, a quiet companion to the wildlife at its feet.

Get ready

How to prepare for Kilimanjaro

Strong legs and patient lungs go further on Kilimanjaro than expensive gear. Start the basics early and you will arrive at Barafu Camp with energy in reserve.

  • Cardio fitness equivalent to two long hikes a week for 8 weeks before the climb.
  • Break in your boots properly. Blisters end summits more often than altitude.
  • Learn to drink 4 litres of water a day, slowly, all day long.
  • Layer system: base, mid, soft shell, hard shell, down jacket. We provide a kit list.

Best time to climb

Two seasons, two flavours

January to March

Cooler nights, fewer climbers, occasional snow above Kibo. A magical time on the upper mountain with quiet trails and clear, crisp summit nights.

June to October

Dry, settled weather. The most popular and most predictable window, especially August and September. Book early for Lemosho departures.
