Zanzibar Coast

Day 1 · Zanzibar Coast

Zanzibar to Northern Serengeti National Park

You will embark on an unforgettable safari adventure starting with a hotel pickup in Zanzibar. You will enjoy a scenic drive to the airport, where you’ll board a small plane to soar to Northern Serengeti. Upon landing at Kogatende Airstrip at 11:00 am, your private safari vehicle awaits. You will begin your exploration of Northern Serengeti by going to the Mara River to witness the crossing of the migration. After a thrilling day, you will retire to your accommodation for a delightful dinner and a comfortable overnight stay. Overnight at Lala Salama Serengeti Camp • Mid-range tented camp located inside Serengeti NP.

After the dust of the safari, Zanzibar is balm: white sand, palm shadows and the Indian Ocean turning seven shades of turquoise. You arrive on the short flight from the mainland and are met at Abeid Amani Karume Airport for the drive to your beach hotel.

Days are yours to design. Snorkel the Mnemba Atoll, sail a traditional dhow at sunset, swim with dolphins at Kizimkazi, take a spice tour or simply do nothing under a coconut palm. Our local representative is on call for whatever you want to add.

Breakfast, Dinner (lunch on activities)

Today's plan

  • Snorkelling at the Mnemba Atoll
  • Sunset dhow cruise with grilled seafood
  • Spice farm tour and Swahili cooking class

Classic tented camp pitched in the heart of the Serengeti — warm hosting, hearty bush meals and easy access to the plains right from your tent flap.

Northern Serengeti (Kogatende & Mara River)

Day 2 · Northern Serengeti (Kogatende & Mara River)

Northern Serengeti National Park

You will start your day at sunrise with a full-day game drive, exploring the stunning landscapes of Northern Serengeti. While the river crossing of the Great Migration is your main focus, Northern Serengeti offers much more. The region is home to over 500 bird species, from the large ostrich and unique secretary bird of the grasslands to black eagles gliding gracefully above the savannah. After an eventful day, you’ll return to your accommodation for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay. Overnight at Lala Salama Serengeti Camp • Mid-range tented camp located inside Serengeti NP.

Between July and October the Mara River in the far north of the Serengeti becomes the stage for the most dramatic act of the Great Migration. Wildebeest pile up on the banks, hesitate, plunge: crocodiles wait below, lions and hyenas above.

We position you at Kogatende or Lamai for two or three full days, which is what it takes to be in the right place when a crossing happens. Between rivers there are lions on the koppies, elephants in the Mara woodland and very few other vehicles.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today's plan

  • Full days at the Mara River crossing points
  • Game drives on the Lamai Wedge
  • Picnic breakfasts in the bush
  • Optional walking safari with a Maasai naturalist
