Private Safari Tanzania — Your Own 4×4, Guide & Itinerary

Private vehicle, private guide, private itinerary — never shared, never rushed. The premium way to experience Tanzania.

A private safari is the only way to actually own your days in the bush. No shared vehicle, no fixed departure schedule, no compromises with strangers. At Serengeti Wakanda every safari is private by default: your group, your own Toyota Land Cruiser with a window for everyone, and a senior driver-guide for the entire trip. We plan each itinerary one-to-one with a Tanzanian planner who lives and works in Arusha.

What 'private safari' actually means

One vehicle, your group only. No strangers in the next seat. Children can nap, photographers can claim the pop-up roof, honeymooners can have the back row to themselves.

Your own senior guide. Not a rotating cast — the same driver-guide from arrival to departure. They learn your interests by day two and shape the drives around them.

Your dates, your pace. Start a day early. Skip a morning. Add an extra night when a sighting deserves it. None of this is possible on a group tour.

Your itinerary. We start from a proven framework, then change anything — camps, regions, optional extras, fly-in vs drive-in.

Why private beats group on every metric

Group tours have one advantage: a slightly lower per-person rate. They lose on everything else — schedule, flexibility, pace, vehicle comfort, guide attention, departure flexibility, and the ability to react to live sightings. On a private safari, when the radio crackles with a leopard sighting 20 minutes away, you go. On a group tour, you finish your scheduled picnic.

For couples, families, photographers, honeymooners and anyone who values their time on the ground, private is the only sensible choice.

What's in the vehicle

Every Serengeti Wakanda Land Cruiser is configured for serious game viewing:

  • Pop-up roof for 360° standing visibility
  • Window seat for every guest (max 6 — usually we run 4)
  • Onboard fridge stocked with bottled water
  • USB and 12V charging at every seat
  • Binoculars and a wildlife reference book
  • Radio link to our guide network across the parks

Pricing — private vs shared

Private safaris are priced per person on a sliding scale by group size. A solo traveller pays more per day; two travellers share a vehicle and the per-person rate drops sharply; four travellers split four ways. The breakdown:

  • 1 traveller: USD 550–950 pppd (mid-range to luxury)
  • 2 travellers: USD 400–800 pppd
  • 4 travellers: USD 350–700 pppd
  • 6 travellers: USD 320–650 pppd

Families and small groups get the best value. We never bolt strangers onto a private booking to hit a number.

Who a private safari is for

  • Couples wanting flexibility and intimacy
  • Families with kids who need shorter driving days, child-friendly camps, and a guide who can teach as well as drive
  • Photographers needing dawn departures, the best window seat, and a guide who'll wait for the light
  • Honeymooners wanting privacy, romance and the freedom to linger
  • Multi-generational groups with mixed pace and interests
  • Repeat safari-goers who already know what they like and don't like

How we customise your trip

When you enquire, a senior planner replies personally within 24 hours. We ask about dates, group size, budget, must-sees, things you want to avoid, mobility, dietary needs, and prior safari experience. We send a first draft within 48 hours — a day-by-day itinerary with named camps, route map, full pricing breakdown, and 2–3 lodge alternatives at each stop.

You revise as many times as you like. We change anything. We don't move on until the itinerary is exactly right.
