Tanzania Honeymoon Safari & Zanzibar — Private, Romantic, Unforgettable

Two weeks you will replay for the rest of your lives — a private Serengeti safari, sundowners on the savannah, and a Zanzibar beach finale.

A Tanzania honeymoon is the perfect combination: a few days of intense, private wildlife in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, followed by a slow Zanzibar beach finale. Romance camps with plunge pools and four-poster beds, breakfast in the bush, sundowners on a kopje, and finally turquoise water and white sand. We plan every honeymoon as a fully private trip — no shared vehicles, no group transfers, no fixed schedule. Just the two of you, a senior guide, and an itinerary designed around your pace.

Why Tanzania is the world's best honeymoon safari

Tanzania uniquely combines the highest-density wildlife on Earth with one of the world's most beautiful beach islands — and you can fly between them in under 90 minutes. South Africa has wildlife but no comparable beach. Kenya has wildlife and Mombasa, but Zanzibar is on a different level. The Maldives are stunning but offer no safari.

A classic honeymoon split: 5–7 days safari + 4–7 days Zanzibar. Total 10–14 days. Cost USD 6,000–18,000 per couple depending on tier, plus international flights.

The most romantic camps in Tanzania

Serengeti & Ngorongoro luxury: • &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge — the most extravagant lodge in Africa • Singita Faru Faru — plunge pool, private deck, exceptional food • Singita Sasakwa — Edwardian-style luxury on a hilltop • Lamai Serengeti (Nomad) — minimalist, dramatic, perfect for couples • Asilia Sayari — close to the Mara crossings, beautiful design

Mid-range romantic: • Sanctuary Kichakani (Serengeti mobile) • Lemala Kuria Hills • Mwiba Lodge (southern Serengeti)

Tarangire/Ngorongoro: • Gibbs Farm — coffee-plantation charm, our most-requested for relaxed honeymoons • Plantation Lodge — Belgian-owned, beautiful gardens, walking distance to vineyards

The Zanzibar beach finale

Most honeymooners spend 4–7 days on Zanzibar after the safari. The best options:

East coast (Matemwe, Pongwe): classic white-sand beaches, calm, romantic. Resorts: The Manta Resort, White Sand Luxury Villas, Zuri Zanzibar.

North (Nungwi, Kendwa): swimmable beach at all tides, more nightlife. Resorts: Zuri, Riu Palace, Essque Zalu.

Mnemba Island (private island, Mnemba Atoll): &Beyond's exclusive-use island. The ultimate finale at USD 2,000–3,000+ per couple per night.

Stone Town (1–2 nights): historic, atmospheric. Park Hyatt Stone Town, Emerson Spice. Great for cultural counterbalance to the bush.

Romantic experiences we add to every honeymoon

  • Private sundowner on a kopje with champagne and canapés (your guide knows the spot)
  • Bush breakfast — coffee and pastries on a folding table in the middle of nowhere
  • In-tent candlelit dinner at your camp
  • Hot-air balloon over the Serengeti at dawn (USD 599 pp)
  • Private massage at most luxury camps
  • Honeymoon suite with plunge pool, where available
  • Walking safari in a private concession
  • Dhow sunset cruise off Zanzibar with seafood dinner

Practical honeymoon planning

Visa: USD 50 e-visa, both spouses. Apply 4 weeks ahead.

Vaccinations: yellow fever required if arriving from a yellow-fever country. Anti-malarials recommended.

Marriage certificate: not needed for entry. Many camps still apply honeymoon perks (champagne, room upgrade, late checkout) if you mention you're newlyweds when booking — we always do this for you.

Best months: June–October for dry-season safari and clear Zanzibar weather. December–March is also lovely (calving safari + slightly warmer Zanzibar) — avoid mid-April to early June (long rains).

Booking lead time: 6–9 months for peak months, especially if you want a specific camp.
