Tanzania Safari with Toddlers — Yes or No?

Every month a family asks if we'll take a 3-year-old on safari. Here's our honest answer — and what to do instead.

Short answer: it's possible, but rarely the best choice. Most camps require kids to be 6+ for a reason — long game drives, no enclosed pools, malaria risk and wildlife in the camp at night.

If you must travel with a toddler • Choose private mobile camps that accept under-6s (we know which ones) • Limit game drives to 2 hours • Stay 3+ nights per camp • Hire a private nanny via the lodge

What we'd recommend instead Wait until the youngest is 6, then plan a longer, more ambitious trip. In the meantime, consider Zanzibar — toddler-friendly beach resorts, no malaria on the very east coast, and a much smoother holiday.
