Roughly 60% of our guests pair their Tanzania safari with a Zanzibar tail — and almost every one of them tells us afterwards it was the perfect sequence. A week of dawn game drives in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, then a flight to Zanzibar for white sand, dhow sunsets and Stone Town spice tours. We handle the internal flights, the resort booking, the airport transfers and the timing — one quote, one planner, one trip.

Why safari + Zanzibar is the right combo

After 6–7 days of early starts and game drives, you'll be ready for a beach. Zanzibar sits 90 minutes from Arusha by light aircraft — no long international transit, no second visa, no time-zone change. The contrast (dust and lions one day, turquoise and barefoot dinners the next) is what makes the combination unforgettable. It's also better value: pairing the two avoids two separate international trips.

Picking the right Zanzibar coast

Zanzibar has four distinct coasts: East coast (Matemwe, Pongwe, Pingwe) — best beaches, calmer water, mid-range to luxury boutique resorts. North coast (Nungwi, Kendwa) — livelier nightlife, swimmable at low tide, big resorts. South-east (Bwejuu, Paje) — kite-surfing, more local feel. North-east / Mnemba — Mnemba private island, ultra-luxury, snorkelling reef. We pick based on your style — most guests land at Matemwe or Pongwe for the boutique-resort sweet spot.

Flights and timing

Internal flights between Arusha/Serengeti and Zanzibar run twice daily (Coastal Aviation, Auric Air, Precision Air). 90–120 minutes, USD 250–400 per person each way, 15 kg soft bag allowance. We always build a buffer day or pad the schedule so a delayed internal flight doesn't wreck your beach time.

Best month for a Tanzania + Zanzibar trip

June–October: dry and beautiful in both. December–February: hot and sunny on Zanzibar, excellent calving on safari. March, April–May: long rains on Zanzibar — we'd avoid this for the beach week (still fine for safari). November: short rains, lovely value, both still work.

Pricing for a combined Tanzania + Zanzibar trip

Per person, all-in, excluding international flights: 9-day mid-range from USD 4,200, premium from USD 6,800, luxury from USD 12,000, ultra-luxury USD 22,000+. Internal Arusha–Zanzibar flights run USD 250–400 each way per person. Mnemba Island adds USD 2,800–4,500 per person per night.

What to do on Zanzibar

Stone Town walking tour (3 hours, a must), spice farm visit, Prison Island day trip, snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll, sunset dhow cruise from Kendwa or Stone Town, Jozani Forest red colobus monkeys, kite-surfing lessons at Paje. We pre-book the experiences you want or leave the beach days entirely free — your call.

How we plan a safari + Zanzibar combo

One planner handles the whole trip: itinerary design, internal flights booked in your name, resort selection across all four coasts and every tier, transfers, optional Stone Town day, optional Mnemba snorkel day. WhatsApp support throughout. If a Zanzibar flight is delayed, we adjust your transfer in real time at no extra cost.
