Yes, three days is long enough for a genuinely good safari - if you choose two parks, not three. The mistake is trying to squeeze the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire into 72 hours by road. That is nine hours of driving and one real game drive.

Day by day, the road version we run most
- Day 1: Depart Arusha after breakfast, reach Tarangire by mid morning, full day game drive along the river, overnight near the park. - Day 2: Morning drive, then transfer to the Karatu highlands, afternoon at leisure or a coffee farm visit. - Day 3: Descend into Ngorongoro Crater at 6:30am, five to six hours on the crater floor, picnic lunch, return to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport by evening.
That is two full game-viewing days plus a crater descent, and you can realistically see four of the Big Five.
What three days will not give you
- The Serengeti properly. One night in the park is half a day of game viewing for two days of fees. - The river crossings, unless you fly straight to Kogatende. - A relaxed pace. Mornings start at 6am.

When to spend the extra days
If the Serengeti is the reason you are coming, five days is the honest minimum by road, or three days as a fly-in. If you want the migration crossings, five days flying in. If you have five days available, adding two nights nearly doubles what you see for well under double the price, because the flights and transfers are already paid for.
Who a three-day safari suits
