A Serengeti safari costs roughly USD 400 to USD 1,200 per person per day in 2026 once you are on the ground. Camping trips using public campsites sit near the bottom. Mid-range tented lodges run USD 550 to USD 800. Luxury camps in the north during crossing season sit at the top.
For a couple spending three nights in the Serengeti as part of a 7-day Northern Circuit trip, the Serengeti portion is typically USD 1,600 to USD 2,600 per person.
The fixed costs before anyone makes a profit
| Line item | 2026 rate |
|---|---|
| Serengeti park entry | USD 70.80 per adult per 24 hours |
| Concession fee, camps inside the park | USD 60 to 71 per person per night |
| Public campsite | USD 41.30 per person per night |
| Vehicle entry | USD 41.30 per vehicle per day |
| Ngorongoro transit or entry en route | USD 70.80 per adult per 24 hours |
| Light aircraft Arusha to Seronera | About USD 260 to 330 one way |
| Light aircraft Arusha to Kogatende | About USD 320 to 420 one way |
| Balloon safari | USD 599 per person |
Three nights inside the park for two people is already around USD 850 to 950 in government and concession fees alone, before a bed, a vehicle or a guide.
What the tiers actually look like
| Tier | Per person per day | Typical properties we use |
|---|---|---|
| Camping | USD 400 to 500 | Seronera public campsite, our own crew and mess tent |
| Mid-range | USD 550 to 800 | Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge, Serengeti Sametu Camp |
| Luxury | USD 900 to 1,200+ | Safari Haven Migration Camp, Masek Tented Lodge, Lion's Paw for the crater leg |
Season moves the number
Peak is 1 July to 31 October and the Christmas and New Year window. Expect 20 to 35 percent above shoulder rates. April and May are the genuine bargain: the same guides, the same park, green landscapes and rates that can be 40 percent lower. Rain is heavier and some black-cotton tracks get soft, which is the trade.
Drive or fly
Driving from Arusha saves flight cost but spends a day each way. Flying costs more per person but often removes a lodge night and a full day of vehicle time. For trips of four nights or fewer in the park, flying one leg is usually the better value once you count the returned game-viewing day.

Where people overspend
- Booking one-night stays that trigger a second day of park fees for half a day of game viewing. - Sleeping outside the park to save on the concession fee, then losing two hours a day driving to the gate. - Paying peak rates for August when the same trip in early June or November delivers 90 percent of the experience.
“The quote people compare is rarely the same trip. One includes the crater descent and the concession fees, the other does not. I always ask guests to send me both quotes and I will show them in two minutes where the difference is hiding.”
